How it behaves

Photoperiod sets the breeding window; the chase phase is the best daylight movement of the year.

A sharp temperature drop and a falling barometer trigger hard movement.

A steady 5–15 mph breeze covers your movement; heavy wind beds them down.

Pre-rut (late Oct). Scrapes and rubs open up; bucks range wider.
Chase phase (early–mid Nov). The best daylight movement of the year.
Peak breeding (mid Nov). Bucks lock down with does, though big cruisers are still possible.
Post-rut (late Nov–Dec). Recovery and a hard food focus; late does still pull cruisers.
Second rut (mid–late Dec). Unbred does and fawn does cycle for a minor bump.
